HIS.com Status: Denial of service attack - mysql - 7/3/2007

[HIS System Status Updates]

There's a large-scale denial-of-service attack aimed at mysql database
servers underway - the effect on the servers is to open so many connections
that mysql starts refusing further connections.  This has caused problems
logging in for email on some servers, and database-driven web sites were
effectively shut down.

We've stopped this by blocking access to the mysql port from outside our
network, and everything is now returning to normal.
