- NO SEX PLEASE, WE¹RE MIDDLE CLASS
By CAMILLE PAGLIA
Op-Ed Contributor
New York Times, June 27, 2010
WILL women soon have a Viagra of their own? . . .
. . . . . Meanwhile, family life has put middle-class men in a bind; they
are simply cogs in a domestic machine commanded by women. Contemporary moms
have become virtuoso super-managers of a complex operation focused on the
care and transport of children. But it¹s not so easy to snap over from
Apollonian control to Dionysian delirium.

Nor are husbands offering much stimulation in the male display department:
visually, American men remain perpetual boys, as shown by the bulky
T-shirts, loose shorts and sneakers they wear from preschool through
midlife. The sexes, which used to occupy intriguingly separate worlds, are
suffering from over-familiarity, a curse of the mundane. There¹s no mystery
left.

Esther Perel, author of Mating in Captivity, will tackle this one the
mundane, the lack of mystery and lust in her Sunday morning keynote,
Erotic Intelligence and in her day-long training, Paradoxes of Desire, on
Monday July 11 at Smart Marriages Orlando:

Erotic Intelligence
Esther Perel, MA
This provocative new take on intimacy and sex grapples with the obstacles
and anxieties that arise when our quest for secure love conflicts with our
pursuit of passion. Explore the paradoxical relation of domesticity and
eroticism,
challenge the inevitable sexual decline and boredom, introduce innovative
strategies to
restore sexual aliveness. Help couples sustain desire over the long haul
while respecting needs for safety and stability.

910 One Day - Monday, July 12
Paradoxes of Desire
Esther Perel, MA
Why does great sex so often fade for couples who continue to love each other
as much as ever? Why does good intimacy not guarantee good sex? Can we want
what we already have? Why does the transition to parenthood so often spell
erotic disaster in couples? Why is the forbidden so erotic? When you love,
how does it feel, and when you desire, how is it different?

- WEBINAR ON MARRIAGE & RELATIONSHIP EDUCATION

The National Healthy Marriage Resource Center (NHMRC) will host a webinar
entitled, "From Research to Practice: Examining New Findings on Marriage and
Relationship Education Programs," on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, from 1:00
2:30pm (Eastern Daylight Time).

What do we know about the effectiveness of marriage and relationship
education programs, and what have we learned about how to best design and
implement them? Speakers at this webinar will discuss new research from
evaluations of two large-scale federally funded studies, as well as a new
meta analysis that synthesizes findings from more than a decade of research
on the implementation and impact of these initiatives.
