> I GET THAT ALL THE TIME
>
> He stopped me on the street,
> he was wearing a backwards baseball hat.
> I'd never seen the devil smile
> but I bet it looks a lot like that.
> From his coat of worn out rags,
> he flashed me a plastic bag and said,
> Hey, this will get you high tonight,
> and I said,
> No thanks, I get that all the time.
>
> When I walk into my kitchen,
> kids are screaming, dinner's burning,
> and I'm reminded we've got PTA tonight.
> When I'm kneeling down
> and feeling all those little arms around me
> and my wife has got the bedroom in her eyes,
> Yeah, Buddy, when you get that kind of love,
> it's the world best kind of drug,
> and I get that all the time.
>
> She wore a cotton dress
> so thin the sunlight came right through.
> I've been a man for long enough
> to know that come on look she used.
> She sat down next to me,
> brushed her hand across my knee
> and said,
> I'll give you the best night of your life,
> and I said,
> No thanks, you see, I get that all the time.
>
> When I walk into my kitchen,

> When I'm kneeling down

> and, man, I get that all the time.

> I get that all the time.

- LETTERMAN AND CBS
Speaking of infidelity and such, several of you expressed the opinion that
Letterman would likely be fired, that CBS would have to dump him. Here's a
clip from today's New York Post that says that's not likely.......too many
men in high places are in the same boat. - diane
>
> CBS would have a tough time taking action against Dave since network boss Les
> Moonves dumped his wife for the much younger Julie Chen.
> "You have Les Moonves sleeping with Julie Chen while he's married, and you
> have Dave sleeping with this woman when he's effectively married," said Bill
> Gorman, of TVByTheNumbers.com.
> "What's the difference?"

- GOOD MEN PROJECT: THE MEASURE OF A MAN
Boston Globe
October 3, 2009
And, what does it mean to OTHER men -- being a good man? Is it the one who
has the best marriage or the one who gets the most on the side? That's
critical, how men define it in their world. Which is why, DO take time to
vote on I Get That All the Time....men talking to men. And watch for Bill
Doherty's Becoming Good Husbands project in Orlando. - diane
> What does it mean to be a good man?¹¹
> Tom Matlack has wrestled with that question in his own life, and it¹s at the
> heart of ³The Good Men Project: Real Stories From the Front Lines of Modern
> Manhood,¹¹ a new anthology of essays he co-edited in which male writers
> describe the challenges they have faced as fathers, sons, husbands, and
> workers.
>
> To a certain degree, of course, those roles are inseparable. . . . .
> . . . . President Obama is being closely watched not just for how he handles
> that whole Leader of the Free World thing, but also for how he performs as a
> father of two young girls and as a husband in a marriage that appears to be an
> equal partnership. ³Mad Men,¹¹ which recently won its second consecutive Emmy
> for best drama series, gives us a weekly glimpse of men (circa 1963) behaving
> badly - as husbands, as fathers, as bosses - while social change is beginning
> to rumble beneath them.
>
> Into that context comes ³The Good Men Project.¹¹ (All proceeds from the book,
> and from an accompanying DVD documentary, will go to a nonprofit foundation to
> help at-risk men and boys.) The project grew out of conversations a year ago
> between Matlack and James Houghton, his former business partner. They
> concluded it might be illuminating to find men willing to write about both the
> big turning points in their lives as well as how they navigate the day-to-day
> pressures of marriage, parenthood, and careers.
>
> ³In general, guys have not been socialized to tell their stories,¹¹ Matlack
> says. ³There¹s so much out there in terms of how women tell their stories -
> their emotional vocabulary, if you will. Part of what we¹re trying to do is
> say that as a guy you don¹t have to tell your story like you would on Oprah.¹
> There¹s a way to do it that¹s true to who we are. As men, it comes down to
> telling the truth about moments in our lives that were turning points.¹¹
