- SLIDING VS DECIDING: THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Here's a clip from Scott Stanley's blog, subscribe here:

> A practical point about relationships: People can have an artificially low
> sense of themselves because of how they have been treated or what they have
> experienced. How they were treated, by family growing up or by past loves, can
> have little to do with their own worth but it still may stick, at least for a
> time. The danger for anyone who has had difficult relationships in the past is
> selling themselves short in the future.

- OBAMA AND FAITH-BASED INITIATIVES

The faith-based initiative, 2.0
Obama's new - and old - approach

Despite the change of administrations, the faith-based initiative that was a
hallmark of the Bush White House is not going to disappear under President
Barack Obama. In fact, the program will expand its mission to "foster
interfaith dialogue with leaders and scholars around the world," according
to the White House press release.

Moreover, the issue of hiring by religious groups that take federal funds
for social service work remains an ongoing controversy, for Obama as it was
for President George W. Bush. As a candidate, Obama said that religious
groups that receive federal funds would not be allowed to discriminate in
their hiring practices. Yet as president, Obama has appeared to allow for
some accommodation on that hot-button issue. How that will play out for
houses of worship and religious institutions across the country that provide
social services is a topic of much debate and uncertainty.

This edition of ReligionLink provides background on the debate, as well as
resources and experts for covering the changing landscape of the faith-based
initiative under the new president.
