DILLE MAY RUN FOR MINNESOTA GOVERNOR
Gotta love this one.....Sen Dille was recipient of the 2004 Smart Marriages
Impact award and wowed the Smart Marriages conference in Dallas. I know I'd
send him a contribution. - diane
> EDITORIAL: Dille for governor
> June 23, 2009 - 2:18pm.
>
> Gov. Tim Pawlenty¹s recent announcement he is not running for a third term
> created an avalanche of political hopefuls throwing their hats in the ring for
> an election that doesn¹t take place until November 2010. We believe our local
> guy, Sen. Steve Dille, is as qualified as any other candidate and would bring
> rural reality to a field of candidates who are not always familiar with
> average citizens¹ lives.
>
> Minnesota voters seldom get a chance to vote in a wide-open race for governor.
> We know of only one election for governor during the past several decades
> without an incumbent running for office. When was that? Remember the 1998
> election when voters picked independent Jesse Ventura? No incumbent in the
> upcoming race means an independent will likely run and split the vote as in
> 1998, giving a slightly lesser known Republican a good chance.
>
> Minnesotans have not elected a DFL governor in 20 years. With strong DFL
> majorities in the House and Senate, voters might expect to sweep a DFL
> candidate into the governor¹s office, too. But we believe the state is closely
> split and the inclination toward a balanced government might prevail for a
> Republican of the caliber and seasoning of Mr. Dille.
>
> Balance is a good word to describe Mr. Dille. He would likely be one of the
> few choices in the field who really knows the rural economy and agriculture.
> Besides being a veterinarian and living on a crop and livestock farm in
> Dassel, he has been the author or co-author of nearly all bills for livestock
> production, feedlots and disease control laws since 1987.
>
> Demonstrated leadership
> Mr. Dille has shown leadership on a variety of fronts. In 2004, he earned the
> ³Smart Marriage Impact Award² for passing pre-marriage and pre-divorce
> education programs. Mr. Dille¹s strategy is to promote stable marriages and
> financial success and hopes to decrease reliance on government while improving
> the Minnesota tax base.
>
> According to his biography, he also was at the heart of the Wetland Reform Act
> in 1991, and the Prairie Island dry cask storage compromise of 1994 with the
> forerunner of Xcel Energy. Mr. Dille has become a wise owl of the Legislature
> on a number of issues. We appreciate his support of the outdoors and
> environment including writing a bill to improve the Luce Line State Trail. It
> remains the only state trail among the original eight such trails without
> improvements. It is unfair to residents in this part of the state as we pay
> taxes to buy, build and pave brand new trails in all other parts of Minnesota.
>
> Mr. Dille was elected to the Minnesota House in 1986, and Senate in 1992. His
> 23 years in St. Paul have honed his expertise on a variety of issues. He was
> author or co-author of 86 bills in the Senate during the past year and
> continues to demonstrate knowledge and leadership on issues lacking among
> others.
