- THE BADGES HAVE LANDED

Badges were mailed from Minnesota on Friday July 19. If you didn't get your
badge today, you'll get it this week - probably tomorrow. Unless your
mailing address is outside the United States, OR, your registration is
incomplete - in which case you should, by now, have received an email about
picking up your badge onsite in Orlando.

As soon as you get your badge, put it in your wallet - you need to bring it
with you to the conference!

Now that the badges have landed, people are calling and asking *How can I
add my spouse, or a banquet, or is it too late for my friend to register?*
It's not too late. You can register online until June 2 and onsite at the
Shingle Creek starting July 5 at 3pm.

However, you cannot ADD sessions, banquets, etc online if you are already
registered. To add sessions, you must call Amedco in MN: 651-789-3738.
They'll print a new badge and you'll swap the old one for the new one at the
Registration desk in Orlando. - diane

- PLEASE ADD ME TO THE FREE NEWSLIST
> Hi ,
> I just got my badge and the enclosed letter suggests we subscribe to the Smart
> Marriages newslist. Can I ask you to add me?
> Kind Regards,
> A. E.

We are unable to subscribe you. You must subscribe
yourself. That prevents people from maliciously subscribing their
ex-wife/husband, sister-in-law, etc....this used to happen and people would
be quite annoyed at the implication they needed "smart marriages help".

Subscribing is easy, just go to Smart
Marriages home page and Subscribe link is in left column.

- RECORDINGS

> is it possible to view tappings of the many workshops you have found helpful?
> I would consider a fee-based viewing since I am not able to attend the
> conference but am interested in supporting my practice through your education
> and clinical undertakings. - AB, LCSW-R in NYC

You can VIEW all the keynotes and banquets - 24 different keynote presenters
all available on DVD, or listen to them on CD or as downloads. Likewise,
you can listen to ALL the workshops and seminars. Everything except the pre
and post conference training institutes is recorded. Order now and your
order will be shipped by mid July. http://www.iplaybacksmartmarriages.com/

- 2010

The most frequently asked questions are about 20101: some version of
WHEN/WHERE is the 2010 conference and how can I submit a proposal for a
workshop, keynote, or institute. First, glad you're thinking ahead.
Second, I've not, yet, signed a hotel contract – *it's the economy*.....we
need to shop as long as possible this year. I am holding July 5 - 11 in
several places. Third, feel free email your presentation ideas. Please do
not call (I'm BUSY.) Applications won't be posted online until Sept 1st.
That's because the application serves as a presenter *contract* - when you
apply you are agreeing to show up and present and you can't do that if you
don't know when and where. There is no such thing as a keynote application
- keynotes are by invitation BUT it's fine to email ideas about what you'd
like to offer as a keynote. Ditto for Training Institutes - also by
invitation only, but it's fine to suggest that you'd like to do an
institute. You need great reviews on your workshop and some assurance that
you can draw a large audience as a stand-alone add-on training, but we can
discuss this in October. I'm pleased that you're eager and interested. -

- DISNEY DISCOUNTS

> Hi Diane,
>
> I’m bringing my wife and girls with me to Smart Marriages and was wondering if
> the conference hotel is offering discount tickets to Disney?  If not, any
> guidance on where to find some?
> Patrick

Here's what I have on the website, I've no new info since my March trip:
> The Shingle Creek is located on Universal Boulevard just off the Beachline
> Expressway (SR 528, Exit #2) 20 minutes from the airport and 10 mins
> from Orlando's world famous attractions like Disney World, Universal, Wet‘N
> Wild, Sea World and several huge shopping Malls including a very popular
> Outlet Mall. There are free shuttles and discount deals including 1/2 day/1/2
> price tickets to Sea World, Universal Studios, and Wet n Wild. Disney shuttle
> is $14 R/T per person. All shuttles MUST be reserved in advance. Travel desk
> in the Shingle Creek lobby opens at 7:15am - to call ahead for reservations or
> information: 407-828-3035. When I was down in March, the travel desk offered a
> Disney discount deal if you are willing to see a 90 min Time Share
> presentation that includes a continental breakfast.

- ADDING A SESSION AND IMAGO DIALOGUE TICKET

> My wife received her badge with the classes she will be attending. We noticed
> she did not get signed up for one of the classes she wanted, my oversight. Can
> she still sign up for that class? The number is #219 on increasing website
> traffic. Also, I didn¹t see any ticket for the Harville Hendrix Fri night
> Imago session. We understood that that event was included in the conference
> registration and it's one of the main reasons we are attending!
> Roger

You'll notice that there are NO Ticket numbers on the badges for ANY of the
Plenary/Keynote sessions, including Harville & Helen Imago Dialogue on Fri
night. All the plenary/keynotes are included in the conference fee. Your
badge, itself, is your ticket. You need a "ticket number" on
your badge ONLY for the banquets, Institutes, and workshops. So you're all
set.

Your wife is registered for Thursday, so she can go "stand by" for session
#219. She should go to the #219 breakout room and ask the Door Monitors if
there is space. She is 95% likely to be admitted. Otherwise she can attend
any of the 200 series sessions. The hotel is huge - lots of space - and
there should be no problem.

BTW, your wife has chosen a great session: #219. Elizabeth Thomas has
radically upgraded her web optimizing know how. I suggest you visit her
Blog. The title sounds like it's all about therapy practice but actually
it's where she shares all her new web tips and tricks:

- WHAT TO WEAR
> Hey Diane, (Don't mean to be too familiar, but I feel like I already know you
> from reading the newslist) As newcomers, how do people dress for the
> conference and the banquets? Semi-formal? We don¹t want to over or
> under dress!!

these lines. Might answer a question you hadn't thought to ask. - diane

>>> Diane--
>>> I'm were wondering what to wear to Smart Marriages.
>>> A shirt and tie, or polo and khakis, or jeans and a T-shirt?
>>> For the banquets, a suit or a tuxedo?
>>> Jay
>>
>> I'm so bad at this – I barley notice. So if any of the vets want to write in
>> and correct me, I'll pass it on. But I think I'd say that polo and kakis are
>> most suitable. We say "casual business" but know that can mean just about
>> anything depending on where you work. Shirt with a collar is best. I
>> don't think anyone wears jeans and a T-shirt, but, again, it may be that
>> I just don't notice.
>>
>> Banquet – shirt and tie would be nice, and you wouldn't look out of place,
>> though it's not at all necessary. A few wear suits. Haven't noticed any
>> tuxes. It's great dinner table conversation and great keynotes and no one has
>> time to change - there are Teach-Ins that you don't want to miss, immediately
>> before the Thurs night banquet.
>>
>> MOST IMPORTANT – comfortable shoes!! And, WARM long sleeves to layer over
>> whatever you're wearing. People literally FREEZE in the air conditioning.
>> In fact, we should be selling sweatshirts – we'd make a fortune. Dress in
>> easily adjusted layers.

- MARS/VENUS COACHING

Diane,
I'm very much looking forward to John Gray's banquet - can't wait to see him
in person. You score! I'm especially interested in meeting him because I'm
considering becoming a Mars/Venus coach and have signed up for that
workshop. I have a suggestion, that you tell everyone who signed up for the
workshop to visit their website before the conference. There's so much
information on the site that will help prepare people - and signing up for
the coaching deal is a big decision: http://www.marsvenuscoaching.com/
