- IF ONE ASKS....SINGLES & EAT FIRST!

>> Hi Diane:
>> I have already registered for the conference, I registered for
>> everything, but do not recall a place on the form to register for the john
>> van epp singles seminar wed night. I do not see that it conflicts with other
>> programs, is this true-nothing running concurrently? What do I need to do to
>> attend? It seems I can go direct from opening night plenary on wed eve. as it
>> starts just after it. Wed 8:45pm - 10:15pm As well as registering for van
>> epp, i have a question about opening night plenary. Is dinner part of the wed
>> night opening plenary session or do we need to eat before such program
>> BB
>
> Just show up for the Singles Wed night event. Your badge is your admission -
> nothing competes with it and no need to register.
>
> Dinner is NOT part of the Wed, Fri or Sat night plenaries. You need to eat
> prior to these events. However, all three are included in your conference
> registration. Your badge is your ticket.
>
> Dinner is of course included in the Tues Gary Chapman and Thurs John Gray
> Banquets - these are not included in the conference registration and require
> separate registration and payment of $39 per person.

- TWITTERING
Marc Payan was in town last week, so now I'm Twittering.....or starting to
get the hang of it. You do NOT need to follow me on Twitter if you're on
this newslist......I'm just telling you so you make sure to get a lesson
from Marc in Orlando - and not just about Twitters, that's only the twit of
the social networking iceberg. He'll be available: at his exhibit Wed -
Sat; in the Thurs Tech Boot Camp workshop #319 followed by the Thurs 5:30pm
Tech Boot Camp; and at the keynote on Sat night. We'll all get a great PUSH
forward. If you do want to try to check out Twittering in advance, just
start at http://www.twitter.com It's all free, but first step is to create
an account. Then you search for people - Marc, Julie Baumgardner, Patty
Howell, and me - for starters. There's a FOLLOW button on each of our pages
- click it if you want to follow. There's a way to have the twits delivered
to your cell phone in real time - I'm not that advanced. I read them on my
own twitter homepage on my computer once a day (I don't think that's in the
twitter spirit....and doubt I can even keep that much up, but it's a start -
and I'm told it's addictive.) Messages are limited to 160 characters. You
think I can?? - diane

- LOOKING FOR NEWLYWED COUPLE

The highly acclaimed MTV documentary series Real Life is working on a
show about Newlyweds. This is an incredible opportunity to get our good news
about marriage education to our most important target audience!! PLEASE
help with this one if you can.

They are looking for a newlywed couple (up to a year post-wedding) up to age
28 who are facing difficulties - or even on the ropes and considering
divorce. The focus will be about normalizing the adjustments and compromises
and skills it takes to make a marriage work. The marriage education
setting can be faith-based, secular, military.

They are NOT looking for experts though if experts are part of the
process, they would be included. For example, if they're filming a
couple taking a class, the instructors might end up in the final film.

Please have interested couples contact Gina directly at Gina.Nemirofsky
at mtvn.com

> About the series:
> "True Life" is a documentary series that's been on MTV for more than
10 years.
> It chronicles the stories of young people in all kinds of situations,
> from global and political issues like war and natural disaster to
> issues of personal struggle like mental illness and family matters.
>
> "True Life" is not a reality show. Our producers follow strict ethical
> guidelines and carefully avoid influencing our subjects' stories. It
> is also not a news show - there is no host, reporter, or narrator. We
> allow our subjects to tell their own stories in their own voices.

Thanks, diane

- LOOKING FOR REMARRIED RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS

Please help (and let's try to find the Newlyweds above for MTV BEFORE they
become eligible for this research - oy!) - diane
>
> Dear Potential Research Participant,
>
> Hello! I am working on my dissertation titled, ³The Influence of Divorce
> Adjustment on Remarital Satisfaction² through Saint Louis University (IRB#
> 16015) and would like to ask for your help. In this online survey, I ask
> participants about their divorce and adjustment to the divorce and about their
> remarital satisfaction. The goal is to better understand the divorce
> adjustment processes that individuals experience after divorce and their
> subsequent satisfaction in their remarriage. The total administration time is
> 25-35 minutes. When you finish, you can enter a drawing to win one of five
> $25.00 gift cards to Walmart. This survey is diverse and interactive.
>
> In order to participate in the study, participants need to be in a second
> marriage after a divorce.
>
> To start, just click the following link. The first section gives more

- INSPIRING STORY: FORGIVENESS & LOVE & GRACE

Dear Diane,
After all these years, I thought I had 'heard it all'...
then this week I received a message from a woman who had done a telephone
consultation with me back in 2001. In it, she gave me an update on her life.
Read it and be inspired!

- NEWS YOU CAN USE: THE LONG-TERM IMPACT OF PARENT FIGHTS

A LINGERING CLOUD
A study that began more than 30 years ago in Quincy shows that family
arguing leaves a long-lasting imprint on children
By Elizabeth Cooney
Globe Correspondent / April 27, 2009

> "No family is perfect and every family in one way or another argues, but it is
> what you do with that argument that will have the greater impact in the long
> haul."
>
> Reinherz says just learning to talk to each other is essential. "The family is
> such an important crucible," she said. "That's why it's so important to help
> families communicate with each other."
