Because MARRIAGE makes it easier and more likely that men will be involved,
responsible, and committed fathers, the National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI)
has launched efforts in 2009 like the "What's Your Legacy?" campaign
(http://legacy.fatherhood.org/).  As part of this emphasis on the critical
importance of Marrige, NFI has created a new marriage-readiness program, Why
Knot?  There are many programs to help engaged couples prepare for marriage
or to strengthen existing marriages, but, no programs to help prepare men TO
MAKE THE DECISION to get married.  The Why Knot? program fills the gap!  It
is designed to help single men and single fathers ages 18-35 break through
the damaging myths and misperceptions about relationships and marriage,
helps them discover the connection between marriage and being a great dad,
and helps them gain new perspectives on their own readiness.

- PRISON PROGRAMS 

Hi Diane,

Wanted to let you know that we too have successfully been doing marriage
education in our local prison (Berks County, Pennsylvania Prison) for
several years now using PREP & Within My Reach. We have a limit of 15
inmates for each workshop. We do males one day of the week & females another
day. The inmates are very receptive & they share, learn and do the workbooks
faithfully. We hold the classes in the prison chapel. We even have some
inmates, when released, attend workshops with their spouse.

It is very rewarding for me, as an educator, to hand them their certificate
at the end of a workshop and to witness how proud they are of their
accomplishment!
