The Fireproof movie continues to amaze!  Not only is Dr Phil going to
feature Fireproof on an upcoming show and endorse it by telling his audience
to see it (imagine the boost that will bring!), but it¹s already #1 on
Fandango. The Fandango folks called the producers yesterday and asked ³WHO
ARE YOU AND WHAT IS THIS MOVIE?!²   Set your Tivo to see Dr Phil and look
for the movie in your area OR arrange a showing at a community marriage

- FIRST THINGS FIRST AND LIVE THE LIFE ANNUAL FUND-RAISER BANQUETS

Julie Baumgardner, Director of First Things First Chattanooga, has
encouraging news she wants to pass on to the rest of you. Even in these
crazy financial times, their annual fund-raiser banquet held last night,
Sept 18, exceeded their targets and ³did really, really well².  Their
keynote speaker was Justice Leah Sears, Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme
Court who welcomed the Smart Marriages Conference to Atlanta in 2006. Julie
reports that Richard Albertson and Live the Life Ministry also did really
well at their 10th anniversary fundraiser banquet this week in Tallahassee.
Says Julie, ³Tell the coalition not to be discouraged. People still want to
support our marriage strengthening efforts. And, maybe it¹s not Œin spite of
the economy¹ maybe it¹s because they realize that with the current economic
challenges, couples need help more than ever and communities need strong
marriages in order to rebuild and recover.²  - diane

- OPRAH AFTERSHOW PROMOTES BAN

I had to miss the Oprah Show on Thurs due to travel, but I¹m told it was
more of the same.....more blaming husband cheating on wives not showing
enough 
appreciation. At least the AfterShow which is posted on the web site,
includes (at the very end) a discussion of how to locate and join, or even
start, a BAN group. Also includes one husband testifying that no matter how
much appreciation his wife had shown, he would have engaged in his multiple
infidelities.  Anne Bercht, BAN director, reports that FIVE new coordinators
have signed up just since the show aired yesterday afternoon!! That is
wonderful.... the means possibly justifying the ends  getting word out

* TEEN BRIDES: THE COMMON DENOMINATOR FOR SUCCESS

Diane,  I want to respond to is the articles you shared on Sept 8 re: teen
marriages by sharing the story of my own teen daughter¹s marriage.  It was
traumatic for both her father and I.  Our daughter was a 4.0 student headed
for Northwestern. Instead she got pregnant and detoured into marriage at
17...six months before graduation. She did graduate from high school, but
that¹s not all. This year she celebrates her 37th birthday she¹ll also
celebrate her 20th wedding anniversary.  She and her husband have not only
made their marriage work, but have raised four children...currently ages
19,18, 17, and 15!

During those years of devastation for me....a social worker...my daughter
pregnant...how did that happen??? And her wanting to be a wife and mother,
not the career woman I raised her to be. How did that happen???  Fortunately
in the middle of our devastation, we received wise counsel from my parents
and were able to change direction, and provide ³a wedding so they'd have
some memories to cling to during the tough times² (these were my dad's wise
words of advice).  The whole family got behind our teen bride and groom and
we've been cheering them on all these years.

Shortly after they were married I was in a sociology lecture that presented
the grave stats on teen marriages...90 percent failure rate (1990). I asked
if there was a common denominator for the 10 percent that succeed????  The
lecturer said YES  strong adult support and encouragement!!!!  Tom and I
decided we could be that in our kids lives.  We've work hard at it and I
like to think we've succeeded. Here they are ready to celebrate #20 and I
think that's pretty awesome...and by the way...their kids are really neat
and I'm not just saying that because they're our grandkids.
