to ³equally shared parenting² do it minute by minute.

- HEALTH CARE TALKABOUT: INVITING ALL CONFERENCE ATTENDEES
Even if you can't attend our Health Care settings Workshop #517, please join
us for an open forum on Health Care and Marriage & Couples Education on
Friday, July 4 (4:30-6pm) in Yosemite C.
The Health Care Connection Workshop #517 (2:30-4pm - also in Yosemite C)
will focus on local efforts and specific demonstration projects - what
people are actually doing in their areas.
> 517
> Healthcare Connection Strategies
> Jennifer Baker, PsyD, Duane Nelson, MS, Carolyn Curtis, PhD, Don Ferguson,
> PhD, Jana Staton, PhD, Chair
> Learn how to provide marriage & relationship education in health care settings
> Relationship First Aid Kits, ob-gyn connections, PPT for busy docs, and
> training health care providers for brief interventions.
The Talkabout will look at the bigger picture: * Where is marriage &
relationship education going in the next 10 years? * What does the future
look like as the current administration departs & funding for CHMIs ends in
2011? * Can public health/health care be a useful umbrella for reaching more
secular, non-captive general populations? * Can CHMI¹s forge substantial
partnerships with the health care systems as a way to expand their work
after Federal funding ends? * What do we need at the NEXT SM Conference to
keep this topic alive? * Who might be key plenary speakers (Diane has tried
for 10 years to get the Surgeon General to be a keynote speaker, with no
success).
I¹ll have hot-off-the-press information about efforts at the
national/Federal level to create new forums for discussing the effects of
marriage and relationship quality on health outcomes and health care for
adults and children. At least three invitational policy/research
conferences are being planned on this topic in the coming year. Especially
impressive are new research briefs that have just been funded, on the
relationship of African-American marriage & family structure to health
outcomes.
