- CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT PREVENTION SURVEY
I just took this survey and it was actually cathartic to get to write about
the #1 way to prevent child abuse and neglect. So please take time for this
enjoyable exercise and explain that compelling research shows that the best
way to prevent child abuse and neglect (physical, emotional, sexual) is to
support marriage and to educate couples how to sustain healthy marriage.
They even ask "if you had $5 million a year to prevent child abuse, on WHAT
would you spend it?" Hmmmmm.....a made to order question. - diane

- REGISTER TODAY: COMMUNITY MARRIAGE POLICY (CMP) TWO DAY TRAINING IN SF
There is still time to register for the two-day Marriage Savers training at
the San Francisco Smart Marriages Conference where you'll be trained
step-by-step in how to dramatically turn things around in your community
with the tried and tested McManus Community Marriage Policy Model. Increase
marriage rates and reduce divorce rates.
Marriage Savers has lined up an outstanding faculty. We didn't have the line
up when we printed the brochure and I'm so impressed with it that I want to
share it so you see how packed and practical the two days will be.
Marriage Savers has created 233 CMPs across the country - hear from three
leaders about their own successful policies:
1. Richard Albertson from Tallahassee Florida has reduced
the county divorce rate by 24% since 1999 and created a Community Marriage
Policy with a budget of $800,000 raised locally (strategies he will share).
2. Rev. Jeff Meyers created a Community Marriage Policy in Kansas City, KS
and its suburbs. Results: the number of divorces in Johnson County fell 50%
from 880 in 1995, the year before the CMP was signed, to only 448 in 2005.
And in Kansas City, the plunge was an astounding 70%, from 650 in 1995 to
only 196 in 2005.
3. Jim Steward of Modesto, CA, the first city to adopt a CMP in 1986,
Director of Stanislaus County¹s Healthy Marriage Coalition, will outline
their remarkable results: a 50% drop in the marriage rate and increase in
marriages from 1,300 to 2,500.
Community Marriage Policies jump-start proven reforms at five stages of
marriage: Preparation, Enrichment, Restoration, Reconciliation and
Stepfamilies. The creators of four of these reforms will present at the
Marriage Savers Pre-Conference:
1. Thorough Marriage Preparation. Mike & Harriet McManus created a
successful 4-6 month marriage preparation process in their home church that
incorporates three elements - a premarital inventory, mentor couples, and
teaching communication and conflict resolution skills.
2. Enrichment: David & Claudia Arp, creators of 10 Great Dates, will
describe how 100,000 couples have enriched their marriages with the 10 Dates
DVD series.
3. Reconciliation: Joe & Michelle Williams will outline their answer on how
to help separated couples to reconcile with their Marriage 911 program.
4. Stepfamilies: Dick & Betty Dunn created Stepfamily Support Groups, that
save 80% of stepfamilies who typically divorce at a 70% rate.
