- HISPANIC MARRIAGE DAY OCTOBER 12: MATERIALS AVAILABLE
Saludos!!
Taking on the creation of Hispanic Marriage Day has been an exciting and
rewarding challenge. After our meetings at SMART Marriages and the many
great suggestions we brainstormed at the Latino RoundTables, I am pleased to
announce that your ideas have been implemented and the materials are now
available on the website to download and adapt for use in your own
communities.
You will find sample Press Releases (English and Spanish), Fliers (English
and Spanish) and a Proclamation Template. Edit to fit your needs!
Also send me information about events in your communities - large or small -
so I can post it on the website.
UNIVISION Radio will sponsor the event here in Dallas interviews, PSA's
and will serve as the MC of the local event. You can contact your local
station and let them know that UNIVISION Dallas in on board with this
celebration. Feel free to email me if you need contact names or advice.
Email us if you'd like to receive our e-newsletter updates.

- MARRIAGE FILM FESTIVAL
Diane,
Two questions. One, you said you'd make the information available about how
to order the films that were featured in the film festival in San Francisco.
I was only able to see one of them and would like to order the others. If
you can send that info, much appreciate it. Second question is will you
repeat this in Orlando, and ifso, how do we submit films for the festival?
- Tom
I have created a link to each film from the Smart Marriages Website. On
HOMEPAGE under Strengthen Marriage in Your Community, click on Marriage and
the Movies link. I know it's hard to find things on the website, but it's
there. That's all I have for now is a link to each home base of each film.
I hope you can figure out how to order the films from each of their sites.
Yes, the film festival was a great hit and we plan to repeat it in Orlando.

- DATE NIGHT
Diane,
Maybe you should forward this to the Arps....bet they could use it for their
10 Great Dates campaign. The Obamas, busy as they are, find time for DATE
NIGHTS! What's best is that they're clearly aware that it sends a MARRIAGE
message to their girls - we could have used this in my dad's Raising
Children for Good Marriages keynote.

- HOW TO PARTICIPATE
> Dear Diane, (and we mean that)
> We attended the Smart Marriage Conference for the first time last month. We
> have so much to say to you, mostly in appreciation to you for bringing
> together all of these wonderful people who believe in marriage and family as
> much as we do, but also to share briefly with you about the book we are
> writing and how we might participate in the conference more fully next year.
> We are headed to DC on the Blue Ridge Parkway and wonder if you would have any
> time to meet with us on this Wednesday morning because we fly out about 2 in
> the afternoon. If that doesn't work out, we will change our plans and get
> there more quickly.
Thanks for sharing. I love hearing from people who enjoyed the conference -
especially first-timers. And, I'm pleased you're working on a book -
hopefully also a "program" since that's what the conference is all about.
I hope, however, that you can understand that there are literally thousands
who attend the conferences, write books, and create programs. And, most of
you get to DC area at some time. After the first few years - and as much fun
as it is, I realized that I cannot possibly do in-person consultations.
People get annoyed - say they'll take me to "breakfast, lunch, dinner,
coffee, whatever - you have to eat!" But, I have no staff, I can eat
quickly here at my home office, and just can't fit in the visits. I'd like
to, realize in-person is better, but there's just one of me, and I have to
decline.
(I made the mistake a few emails ago of mentioning that I had dinner with a
woman who attended the conference and that we talked about the John Gray
keynote. Ten emails like yours later, I realize it gave the wrong
impression. The woman I had dinner with also happens to be my friend of 40
years, lives in DC - and it was our annual dinner to celebrate our
birthdays....we're efficient, combine them.)
I've learned that I can, however, advise/consult via email on
books/projects. It's very efficient. We can then schedule a call, if
necessary, and if there's time. So, email and tell me what specifically
you'd like to know/ask/suggest and we'll take it from there.
Also, if you've subscribed to the elist, you know that presenter
applications are now posted on the website - just click Conference. These
are due Oct 10. If you haven't subscribed to the list, I encourage you to do
so - on the home page, for free. It's how we stay connected and will help
you figure out the many ways - book exhibit, Directory of Programs, CHMIs,
etc - ways you can get more plugged in.
