- SET YOUR TIVO: HARVILLE HENDRIX ON ADDICTIONS: ON OPRAH APRIL 29
Harville Hendrix will work with his IMAGO model with an addicted couple on
Oprah on Tues April 29. I'll try to send a reminder next Monday, but put
this on your calendar in case I don't - this is one we don't want to miss!

This will be Harville's 17th appearance on Oprah. Amazing! In fact, it was
on Oprah that he launched his book, Getting the Love You Want, 20 years ago
- a show that won Oprah an Emmy! It's a testament to Harville that the book,
revised for its 20th anniversary, is still a best seller.

AND, WE'VE got him! Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt, recipients of
the 2008 Smart Marriages Impact Award will present a keynote at the Tues
night Banquet in San Francisco; will teach a two-day training institute; and
will present a 90 min training workshop on using Imago Couple Dialogue. The
Institute gives you the opportunity to spend two full days studying with
this master. You do not need to be a mental health professional to be
trained as an instructor. The Institute is also open to couples and singles
- even if you don't want to become an instructor, attend to learn the skills
to apply to your own life.

- LHJ: OUR MOST SHOCKING STORY EVER

Dave Carder is featured on the cover of the current Ladies Home Journal with
the headline "Our Most Shocking Story Ever" as part of their "Can This
Marriage Be Saved?" series. Pretty amazing headline for a series that's been
running for 50 years! This one is about a marriage that sounds like it could
not be saved, but, tah dah!, Dave comes in with his Torn Asunder model and
puts humpty back together again. The case is one of pastoral adultery that
ended in loss of career, a major move, the husband being dismissed from the
home for domestic violence, and bankruptcy. BUT, they made it and 3 years
later are doing much better. The article is not available on-line, so
you'll have to read it at the check-out counter.

You have two chances to study with this master in SF - also drop by the
Infidelity Prevention & Recovery Resources exhibit (if you can find
it!...we're going to have so many exhibits I don't know what we're going to
do!):

> 208 - Thursday, 10am - his teach-out-of-the-box program
> Torn Asunder: Mending Infidelity TOOB
> Dave Carder, MA
> This model provides a structure to stabilize marriages in the crucial first 90
> days; skills to differentiate types of infidelity and to start forgiveness and
> trust building; plus homework.

> 801 - Saturday Seminar, 4pm

> Advice from thousands of adulterers help us identify our own high risk
> situations and ³Dangerous Partner Profiles² and provides ideas for using Close
> Call experiences to actually strengthen marital intimacy.

- DEAR ABBY

Several of you asked HOW/WHERE to write Dear Abby.
Go to the http://www.dearabby.com and on the right there is a link to
"Write Dear Abby" -- you fill in that screen and it's sent.

Here's another example of a nice short letter that makes our point:

> Dear Abby - In response to the woman choosing to stay single rather than
> possibly repeat her parents' abusive modeling, please let her and your readers
> know there is another choice in addition to therapy: Marriage Education
> classes. Thousands of singles and couples around the country have learned the
> skills of how to thrive in a happy AND healthy relationship by taking these
> classes.
>
> Visiting www.smartmarriages.com will give access to hundreds of wonderful
> programs. I've taught one of them for over 15 years, and have seen hundreds of
> participants learn and practice how to relate, connect and keep their marriage
> strong and happy. Parenting classes years ago seemed unusual, but now they are
> valued and attended by thousands. Please let your readers know that similar
> value, and a thriving relationship, is available by taking marriage education
> classes. These days, love is really not enough -- society makes it "easy" to
> give up and move on. We learn how to drive a car, work a computer, be a parent
> -- time to accept the value of learning to be a partner.

- FORUM ON MANHOOD MISSES THE MARK
By JIM WOOTEN | Tuesday, April 22, 2008
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A group of middle-class black professionals, including doctors, lawyers,
teachers, clergy and politicians, gathered more than 500 people at Macon
State College on a Saturday in March to have a conversation about manhood.

They chose as topics the criminal justice system, spirituality, mentoring
and how to educate black males.

BUT, it seems they forgot that:
³Healthy marriage is not only the best place to raise children, it is the
indispensable institution without which all other social reform efforts will
fail ...

- DON'T LET MONEY RUIN YOUR MARRIAGE
Financial tensions are partly to blame for boomers' record divorce rate. How
to make love, not war.
By Dan Kadlec, Money Magazine contributing writer
April 22, 2008

> But like most couples, we sometimes experience more serious tension when
> allocating our resources. Marriage counselors say that half of all couples
> fight about spending and that money issues are a driving force behind most
> divorces. Learning to peacefully resolve such disputes may be the key to a
> lasting relationship.
>
> Let's tackle these challenges one at a time. . . .
