- A BIG TANF TAH DAH!

Georgia and Alabama have recently been added to the list of states that have
set aside TANF funds for marriage skills-building programs. Georgia
allocated $100,000 in TANF funds and Alabama just announced allocation of
$200,000 a year. Francesca Adler-Baeder was the driving force behind the
Alabama effort. And a MAJOR TANF funding bill for marriage education,
spearheaded by Maggie Russell, is in the pipeline in Texas. It's passed the
House, has cleared committee in the Senate, and is on its way to the
Senate for a vote. Clearly it only takes one person to galvanize a team!

There are now TANF marriage education set-asides in Utah, New Mexico, New
York, Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina. How about your state?!

Another print and save! Use this article when you testify in your state or
even to talk to local policy folks or journalists. And, Bravo Professor
Hawkins. It's great that this article made it into the Journal. - diane

> Diane,

> premarital education legislation will be published the next Journal of Law and
> Family Studies. It also gives estimates of the public savings from such
> legislation based on an illustrative state (Utah). I received permission from
> the Journal editor to post a pdf on my web site:
> http://fhss.byu.edu/Faculty/ajh3 I encourage individuals to send it to
> legislators who may be interested or to use it as background if they're called
