- LOOKING FOR CONFERENCE DOCENTS

I just had a wonderful conversation with a woman who says she works as a
docent at her local museum and wondered if she might help at the conference
in a similar role. This is her 5th conference and she feels she knows her
way around and since she's coming anyway would like to help - but doesn't
want to be in the way. Are you kidding? We NEED "conference docents"
(guides) in two capacities that I can think of - probably more.

First, we desperately need conference veterans to help walk-in registrants
fill out their registration forms BEFORE they get to the counter. If they
get to the counter it can take 15 mins to answer their questions and process
each registration which makes the line unbearably long. First-timers are
understandably confused. Someone needs to be sure they've made their
workshop, institute, and banquet decisions BEFORE they get in line. They
also want to ask questions about presenters and topics. Who's good? What's
an Institute? What's a Sunday seminar? How do I register for the keynotes?
How do I register my husband for the Tony Robbins event? There is a bit of
power in this - you can steer them to your favorites. :)

We need help Thurs from 4- 6:30pm and each morning 7:30-8:30am Tues - Mon
but especially Thurs & Fri - as much as you have time for.

Second, help with traffic. The Adam's Mark hotel is a bit of a labyrinth
with meeting space on 5 different levels in two separate buildings separated
by a busy city street. We need to get people to sessions in 15 mins - plenty
of time if they don't get lost! Even with the maps, there will be attendees
(and presenters!) trying to find Vail down in the bowels of the Tower
building or Silver up on the Mezzanine level, etc. No one needs to be a
conference veteran for this job - just good at directions and someone that
likes to help. We can especially use help after the morning keynote and
lunch sessions on Friday - before people get their bearings. Come to the
registration area and ask for Merrilie Rackham or Amber Martin and they'll
connect you to the traffic crew. Or, if you see a bunch of dazed people at
some bottle-neck, just step in and tell them where to go.

You can get a head start by studying the floor plan and Room locator pdfs
posted on the website - go to http://www.smartmarriages.com - click
Conference and scroll down to bottom left corner. Hint: there is a large
ballroom in each of the two separate buildings - the Plaza Ballroom in the
Plaza Building will be the location of all 8 keynotes and the Fri night
banquet. The Grand Ballroom, in the Tower Building, is the location of our
largest workshops and of the Wed night and Sun night banquets. - diane
