- IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: SAT NIGHT TONY ROBBINS/CLOE MADANES

You ask (cry, plead, beg) and we do our best. I know I've said in earlier
emails that it couldn't be done, but in a departure from tradition, we will
sell special tickets to the Tony Robbins/Cloe Madanes "Ultimate
Relationships" event on Sat night. The delay was due to figuring out how to
add this event to the registration process, the badges, etc. In the past
we've sold guest tickets only to the banquets and did not sell tickets to
the Sat Night Live event. As of today, we do.

NOTE: IF YOU REGISTER FOR THE CONFERENCE OR FOR SATURDAY, the Sat night
event is already included. You don't need to do anything. This is just a
way for those attending to add a guest or guests. Your guest's tickets will
appear on your conference badge.

This event, like the banquets, will NOT be open to the general public, only
to those who attend with a registered conference participant.

If you are not yet registered for the conference, there is a special place
on the on-line registration form to add Sat night guest tickets. (Try to
register by May 11, that's when the early-bird rate expires!
http://gotomylist.com/cme/smc05/smc07rf2.cfm )

IF YOU HAVE already registered, you have to call to add the ticket(s). Call
800-314-1921 ext 10. They'll add the charge to your credit card.

Tickets are $40pp. The event begins at 7pm, Sat night, June 30th at the
Adams Mark.

> P-7 Saturday, June 30, 7pm
> Saturday Night Live!
> Ultimate Relationships
> Cloé Madanes, HDL, and Anthony Robbins
> Madanes and Robbins will explain the foundations of the approach presented in
> their new DVD-based, teach-right-out-of-the-box program that can help even the
> most hopeless couples reconnect by understanding the three levels of
> relationship, recognizing each other's six core needs, mastering eight
> essential skills, and learning how to be totally present. They'll teach you
> how to have not just an ordinary marriage, but, instead an extraordinary -
> ultimate - relationship.

Ditto for the Banquet tickets - you can purchase guest tickets to the three
banquets Wed, Fri, and Sun nights. Either on-line when you register or if
you've already registered and wish to add tickets, call to do so.

- VOLUNTEERS

Based on the numbers expected in Denver, I STILL need student volunteers to
attend on a work-exchange basis. However, I need coverage on the pre and
post conference institutes, so am now accepting ONLY volunteers that can
work a pre or post session. There are still GREAT Institutes available. If
you attend as a volunteer you are trained/certified in the program and get
the materials just like a regular paying attendee. This opportunity is also
open to grantees - a great way to get folk trained up to present programs.

- TAH DAH PATTY HOWELL: MARRIAGE EDUCATION AS CULTURAL CHANGE ARTICLE

Bravo Patty!! Patty Howell, VP of of the California Healthy Marriages
Coalition, got a marriage EDUCATION article in the California Marriage and
Family Therapist journal, THE THERAPIST! The article, "Marriage Education:
An Important Investment in Cultural Change", presents an overview of the
Marriage Education movement, introduces CHMC's innovative "coalition of
coalitions" approach, and gives suggestions for how MFTs can participate in
brining Marriage Education skills into the mainstream. This is an amazing
coup - to get an article about marriage EDUCATION into this "therapist"
journal.

And, that's not all. Patty and Carolyn Curtis, CHMC Executive Director,
will present a workshop at the CAMFT Annual Conference--"If You Are An MFT,
Do You Know about California's Healthy Marriages Initiative?: What You Need
to Know!" May 18, in Santa Clara, CA.
-diane

The article is a available as a pdf on the CHMC website:
http://www.californiamarriages.org/Why%20Marriage%20Matters_files/CAMFT%20ar
ticle%20by%20Patty%20Howell.pdf

Patty and Carolyn Rich Curtis will present a workshop at the Denver Smart
Marriages conference specifically for MFTs attending Smart Marriages for the
first time:

> 214 - Friday, June 29
> MFTs: What's In It for You?
> Carolyn Curtis, PhD, Patty Howell, EdM
> Besides a bunch of CEUs, this conference offers a whole new way to expand your
> wisdom and passion from one-couple-at-a-time to the village. Increase your
> impact and effect cultural change.

- SPOUSES ATTENDING??

> I just heard about your conference. My husband's job is sending him (He is a
> Family Support Specialist - mentors & counsels with couples who will soon be
> married.) We also teach a pre-marital course at our church, so wanted to
> obtain more info about the conference to see if I should attend, as well.
> Tayisha

You should DEFINITELY DEFINITELY come. First, he'll miss you terribly if
you're not there - it's that kind of conference where you want to sit
TOGETHER as you listen to the 21 keynote speakers - you can nudge each other
in the ribs as you laugh and learn. Second, if you're already teaching
marriage education at your church, you're already a "natural born member" of
the coalition (there are no dues, just passion about marriage education) and
you'll be totally blown away by the number of resources, teaching tools,
courses, and the chance to talk to others who are doing what you're doing -
lots of enthusiastic mentor couples attending. And, as you know, couples
make the best marriage instructors. Also, spouses get a $100 discount and
since he's got to pay for a hotel room anyway you might as well be there.
Maybe you could come early or stay late and attend one or two of the pre or
post conf training institutes and take new curricula back to your
congregation. There are also many "teach out of the box" programs that
don't require training - you can attend those as workshops as part of the
three-day conf. See the Tracks page to help you sort through the program and
visit the conf details page to book your hotel - that's urgent, hotel could
fill up any minute. You have until May 11th to get the early-bird conf
discount rate - register on-line for an additional $10 off AND to be entered
in a sweepstakes drawing to win two free registrations to the '08
conference. Once you come you'll be hooked. - diane

Denver to host a national conference for Catholic family life ministers in
June
Denver Catholic Register

The National Association of Catholic Family Life Ministers will hold its
annual conference at the Adam¹s Mark Hotel in Denver June 27-28.

With a nod to its Rocky Mountain hosts, the event is called ³Taking Our
Ministry to a New Altitude.² The conference is for diocesan and parish
family life ministers and all others involved in parish or diocesan
ministries. Parishioners, volunteers and staff from the Denver Archdiocese
are invited to attend.

Phil Webb, director of the Denver Archdiocese¹s Marriage and Family Life
Office, said the conference should be enriching.
³I encourage everyone in the Archdiocese of Denver to take advantage of this
opportunity for fellowship and learning from the great lineup of
presentations,² Webb said.

Bishop Joseph Kurtz of Knoxville, Tenn., will celebrate the conference¹s
opening Mass. He will provide a keynote address later in the day reviewing
the U.S. bishop¹s proposed National Pastoral Initiative on Marriage. Bishop
Kurtz chairs the U.S. bishops¹ committee on Marriage and Family Life.

David Thomas, a longtime Regis University professor, will speak on ³The
Largely Hidden and Almost Unknown Holiness in Marriage and Family Life.²
Thomas has three new books out this spring on marriage and family
spirituality.

Elizabeth Marquardt, author of ³Between Two Worlds: The Inner Lives of
Children of Divorce² will speak on her current research on parenting.
Elizabeth Epstein, an expert on stepfamilies will share her knowledge and
advice about working with remarried families. Rosaria Slack, a national
expert on the fatherhood initiative, will talk about strategies to motivate
men to be responsible fathers.

A panel will address the challenge of domestic violence in families,
responding to the needs of military families, and dealing with mental
illness in a family member. Dennis Stoica from the California Healthy
Marriage Coalition, a lunchtime speaker, will give strategies on networking
with other community leaders to strengthen marriage. Stoica has helped
communities across the country in designing Internet sites to promote
marriage initiatives and programs.

The NACFLM gathering is being held in conjunction with the internationally
known Smart Marriages Conference. A suggested donation of $150 is asked to
cover the sessions and lunches for both days. A one-day donation is $50.

There are also two evening events. A ³meet and greet² opening reception will
be held on Tuesday evening. Wednesday evening will offer a banquet featuring
Nicky and Sila Lee, creators of The Marriage Course. Banquet tickets are
$37. There is no cost for the Tuesday reception.

For more information, visit the NACFLM Web site at www.nacflm.org. All
