- CFLE APPLICATION PROCESS IS ABOUT TO CHANGE!!
I want to alert you to the fact that the Certified Family Life Educator
(CFLE) application/qualification process is changing on Sept 4th.
The CFLE designation is one that fits very well with our work (marriage and
family education) and is nice to have for both credentialing and "political"
reasons - that is, even if you've got all kinds of letters after your name
(PhD, MSW, DMin, MBA, JD, etc) it's nice to add that you're a certified
EDUCATOR as well.
And, if you're changing fields or working as lay educators, it's very useful
to have the CFLE credential. Minimum requirement is a bachelor degree (in
anything). If the degree is family-related (family studies, human
development, etc) you also need two years of experience in providing family
life education. Those with non-family-related degree, need five years of
experience. I've heard that most all of it (like which degrees are
"family-related" and which course work and which experiences qualify) is
open to interpretation. For instance, attending/teaching training Institutes
at Smart Marriages can qualify. And, so many of you have so much experience
creating and teaching. Fill out the forms and help them understand your
qualifications.
I know many of you have this on your "to do" list. Don't let it get away
from you. Do it by Sept 4th while you can still use the "portfolio" review
process - review your transcript, post grad education, and resume (your
related experience.)
Come Sept 4th, you'll have to take a qualifying exam.
For help, visit the National Council on Family Relations website at
http://www.ncfr.org (CFLE Certification). All CFLE application materials can
be downloaded from the site. Bring your resume and transcript to the Smart
Marriages Conference where Dawn Cassidy, CFLE Director, will answer your
questions at the NCFR Exhibit booth.
Questions? Contact Dawn Cassidy, CFLE, at dawn at ncfr.org
