- WORKSHOP SELECTIONS? AND OTHER QUESTIONS/HOUSEKEEPING

> Diane,
> When will we know if our workshop was selected for the Denver Conference?

I hope to let workshop presenters know by mid January. I apologize to the
many of you asking me about the status of your submission. I simply don't
have time to answer each of you individually at this point. Note that if
you missed the submission deadline (it's always in October), remember there
is still time to submit a Poster Session. The Poster Session application is
on the website, just click conference. And, to answer the three other most
frequently asked questions: 1) EXHIBIT applications are available on the web
site (just click conference). 2) to apply to VOLUNTEER at the conference,
you must email me and request an application - here's preliminary info:
http://www.smartmarriages.com/volunteers.html And, 3) NO, you do not have
to be a federally funded grant recipient to place a free marriage education
job announcement:
http://www.smartmarriages.com/jobs.html

HOWEVER, do not send me anything - not anything - by hitting reply to this
newlist posting or any other newslist/listserv posting. I will NOT receive
your message. Those messages go into cyberspace and do not reach me. You
need to start a new fresh email with my email address.

- LIVING WILL (WHY MARRIED MEN LIVE LONGER....OR, IT JUST SEEMS....)
Last night, my wife and I were sitting in the living room talking about many
things. The idea of a living will came up and I said to her, "I never want
to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a
bottle. If I ever come to that just pull the plug."
She got up, unplugged the TV and then threw out my beer.

in the Black community by honoring those couples who have led by example and
have stayed together. We will supply the guidelines and promotional
materials. Help us make this the best Black Marriage Day ever. If you are

The Longly-Weds Know

That it isn't about the Golden Anniversary at all,
But about all the unremarkable years
that Hallmark doesn't even make a card for.

It's about the 2nd anniversary when they were surprised
to find they cared for each other more than last year

And the 4th when both kids had chickenpox
and she threw her shoe at him for no real reason

And the 6th when he accidentally got drunk on the way
home from work because being a husband and father
was so damn hard

It's about the 11th and 12th and 13th years when
they discovered they could survive crisis

And the 22nd anniversary when they looked
at each other across the empty nest, and found it good.

It's about the 37th year when she finally
decided she could never change him

And the 38th when he decided
a little change wasn't that bad

It's about the 46th anniversary when they both
bought cards, and forgot to give them to each other

But most of all it's about the end of the 49th year
when they discovered you don't have to be old

to have your 50th anniversary!!!!

- CUDDLE PARTIES SATISFY SKIN HUNGER

- Hi Diane,
I just saw this article. It's sad that we have so much touch deprivation.
Seems that it's possibly an outgrowth of broken homes, as well as a general
resistance/discomfort with physical (non-sexual) affection. Hopefully we can
teach married couples to fulfill each other's needs for touch and to pass on
that legacy to their children.
