- MUST READ NON-MARRIAGE ARTICLE
I know this is a marriage listserv and this article "Microbesity?" (the
cover story of this week's NY Times Sunday Magazine) is NOT about marriage.
But I recommend it as a mind-blowing article about our biology. It's
ostensibly about "obesity' -- get past that and read about our microbes and
be filled with awe. Microbes is us!

- RECOMMENDED RECORDINGS
> Dianne,
> You asked which sessions we'd recommend to the list. I want to recommend Bill
> Doherty's "Marriage Friendly Therapy" workshop and the Michele Weiner-Davis
> and Jon Marsh session that presents an alternative approach to love and sex
> addiction. I'm in clinical practice and highly recommend them to other
> therapists but I also think everyone on the list should hear these two
> sessions. They are radical, change the way you think and understand, and the
> way you will approach marriage and couples and the issues. Both very
> inspiring and fill you with hope and determination.

I agree. I've listened to both of these sessions and I remember thinking
that Doherty's session was one of the best workshops I'd ever heard, and,
yes, that Marsh is on to a whole NEW way of understanding addiction. We have
to thank Michele for discovering him and bringing him to Smart Marriages.
Both sessions were very personal and listening to the recordings you do have
that sense of "being there" and of the incredible care these presenters
bring to their topic. Both sessions got very high marks from those that
attended the sessions with wild cheers of "bring them back and give them
keynotes"..... We shall see. As I read the evaluations, the great news is
that so many sessions were given that praise: "bring em back and give em a
keynote.' Makes me proud, but, of course we only have so many keynote slots
so also makes me a bit anxious...... Send your votes. - diane

- SIGN OF THE TIMES: UNMARRIED WEEK.....
U.S. Census Bureau News release:
³National Singles Week² was started by the Buckeye Singles Council in Ohio
in the 1980s to celebrate single life and recognize singles and their
contributions to society. The week is now widely observed during the third
full week of September (Sept. 17-23 in 2006) as ³Unmarried and Single
Americans Week,² an acknowledgment that many unmarried Americans do not
identify with the word ³single² because they are parents, have partners or
are widowed.
89.8 million - The number of unmarried and single Americans in 2005. This
group comprised 41 percent of all U.S. residents age 18 and older.
