- DALLAS/FT WORTH: LOOKING FOR COUPLES
Another chance to help. The Dallas Morning News is doing a follow-up based
on the NY Times Science section article that examined the effectiveness of
marital therapy. They want to interview:
> a husband/wife or divorced couple or individuals that had a less than
> satisfying experience w/ marital therapy -- found the therapist to be less
> than supportive of their marriage; weren't pleased with the "spilling your
> guts" aspect; didn't find it helpful in strengthening their marriage. We can
> use first names only if that makes folks more comfortable. If they can compare
> that with a later experience with marriage education, that would be
> interesting but is not necessary.

- UNMARRIED MOTHERS ON NPR: KATHY EDIN AND MARIA KEFELAS
Diane,
I listened last night to the Kojo Namde Show on NPR -- it was
great! Lots of lessons, challenges and opportunities for us. The caller's
questions/comments were interesting, too.

One out of every three American children are born out of wedlock. Hear about
new research that reveals the surprising reasons why poor women consciously
choose to have kids long before they're ready to commit to marriage.

- PLEASURE MARRIAGES
Diane,
What do you make of this? "Pleasure Marriages" - sure is an intriguing
headline but it's not what you think.

- ROUNDTABLES AT THE SMART MARRIAGES CONFERENCE
Diane,
Do you have a schedule available somewhere of the Morning Roundtables at
this year's conference? I like planning my schedule in advance and want to
make as many of these as I can fit in. I think you should also remind the
list that the Roundtables are a wonderful way to expand your contacts and
knowledge. I find them extremely useful and enjoyable.
Jeff
I second that emotion, the feedback on the Roundtables is always
over-the-top positive -- apparently it's well worth getting up early to
attend. Also, note that there are afternoon Roundtables on Fri and Sunday.
Also, note that you do NOT need to register for these in advance or be
members of any group or community to attend them. They are open to all
conference attendees. Just show up. Bring coffee and a bagel if you don't
have time to eat breakfast first.
Please note that you DO need to reserve a place in advance for the ACF
(Administration for Children and Families) Consults. These are small group
consultations and are kept small to keep them effective.
> ACF SMALL GROUP CONSULTS:
> Meet with Bill Coffin of the Administration for Children and Family
> (ACF) to ask your questions about establishing and funding a Healthy Marriage
> Initiative in your community. Thurs, Fri and Sat, 7:30-8:30am and Sun 5-6pm.
> Groups limited to 20 people. To reserve, email bcoffin at acf.hhs.gov OR,
> register on site at the ACF exhibit on a space-available basis.
