- ABC NEWS: MILITARY MARRIAGES - GUNGOR & SIMPSON

Wed May 4, Mark Gungor and Kelly Simpson will be featured on the ABC NEWS
Channel on "Top Priority" at 10am EST.  Gungor, of Laugh Your Way to a
Better Marriage, who is going to Germany to present to soldiers this month
and Simpson, who is increasingly called on to present her Active
Relationship seminars to returning soldiers and their spouses, will both
present at the Dallas Smart Marriages Conference.  They'll each do workshops
plus Gungor will present the very special Sat Night Live event and Simpson

- REDBOOK: LOOKING FOR COUPLES

Here's another chance to help spread the word that we CAN indeed make
marriages smarter, stronger, sexier and better.  Redbook magazine is doing
an article about marriage "sex droughts" -- what causes them (weight gain,
job loss, job success, fertility issues, depression, stress, childbirth,
illness, etc??) -- and what helps.  They're looking for individuals (women
and men) to share their experiences.  The deadline is May 15th, so the
sooner the writer can start conducting interviews, the better.  Contact

- MOVIE AWARD: URGENT

Diane, 
I strongly encourage you to consider awarding the movie "The Notebook" a
Smart Marriages Impact Award.  I know you have only presented the movie
award once -- to "The Story of Us" (I agree that movie completely deserved
it) -- but I think this movie is worthy of the same recognition.  If you
haven't seen it, I encourage you to do so.  It is avialable on DVD. If you
have seen it and you don't think it deserves the award, I'd be interested in
WHY NOT?  I also suggest you put this to the list.  At the same time, I'd
also be interested in other movies list members would recommend.  It's so
hard to find positive marriage movies.

This is remarkable. I was interviewed by a reporter just today who was
writing about the influence of TV and movies on the 'marriage culture'.  I
told him we gave 'Story of Us' an award in 1999 and hadn't found another
movie that we could all agree was Marriage-Award worthy.  He said, what
about "The Notebook"?  Then, not an hour later I get your email.  You can be
sure I'll check this out.  I'll start by taking your advice and asking the
list what they think and/or if they have any other 'marriage movies' to
nominate.  We don't have much time, conference is only 6 weeks away and if
we're going to do this, we'd like to do it at the conference.  I'd need a
volunteer to track down the producer/director/studio and contact info.
Anyone stepping up?  Also, note that we'll have TWO workshops on Marriage
and the Movies in Dallas -- these are always incredibly popular sessions.
I'll have to ask Tom and Peter what they think of "The Notebook" and Jana
Staton who wrote the study guide for "The Story of Us".  Watcha think?  -
