- MARK GUNGOR TO VISIT THE TROOPS
Mark Gungor will present his Laugh Your Way seminar and Flag Page inventory
in Bamburg, Germany May 23-24th to couples on the American military base.
Military marriages are under extreme stress due to long deployments and
other challenges of service life. This is especially true for younger
couples, as almost 65 percent of junior enlisted personnel marriages end in
divorce. If Mark can't help, I don't know who can. And, if you can't make
it to Germany, you can see Mark at the Sat Night Live: Laugh Your Way to a
Better Marriage and his Sunday Flag Page workshop at the Dallas Smart
Marriages Conference. For info, see laughyourway.com - diane

Yes, absolutely, let's change this! It's short notice, with an April 30th
submission deadline, but if you collaborate w/ an organization that already
fits the requirements and give them your plan for marriage education
services to strengthen marriages, AND offer to write the grant, bet you can
qualify. It's a simple grant proposal. And, if not this year, then in
2006. Be sure to read the FAQs link. Thanks, Abby for sending this one in.
We all really appreciate the help from those who identify and grant
opportunities. - diane
Diane,
I know there you've been getting requests from people who want to help
military families, and I thought they might be interested in hearing about
this grant opportunity. I'm including the text of the website announcing
the grant below. I looked at the 2004 winners (posted on the website) , and
none of them were focused on marriage and family education, maybe we can
change that this year. For those who are interested in more information
they can go to http://www.fisherhouse.org and click on the Newman's Own
Award link.
Here is the text from the site:
Co-Sponsored by Fisher House Foundation, Inc. & Military Times Media Group
America's global war against terrorism has meant unprecedented deployments
and family separation - for all branches of the military and for the Reserve
and National Guard components as well as the active force. Military families
have been faced with challenges and sacrifices as they cope with maintaining
a normal lifestyle while waiting for the safe return of a loved one. At unit
and installation levels, volunteers have organized to support these
families. With these families in mind, Newman's Own, Fisher House Foundation
and Military Times Media Group offer a challenge to volunteer organizations
which support our military: Present an innovative plan supporting military
families and receive a share of $50,000 in grant awards to carry out that
plan.
World War II Navy veteran and actor Paul Newman started a successful
business of specialized food products, Newman's Own, with two simple ideas:
insisting on top quality products without the addition of artificial
ingredients or preservatives; and giving away all his profits, after taxes,
to educational and charitable organizations. Thousands of charities have
received donations from Paul Newman as a result of the sale of his
products - donations exceeding $150 million since 1982.
Fisher House Foundation is the premier quality of life organization
supporting the military. Since 1990, the Foundation has built and donated to
the military and veterans' communities 32 comfort homes for families of
patients at nearby military or veterans' medical centers. Additionally,
Fisher House Foundation in conjunction with the Defense Commissary Agency
administers a scholarship program for military children.
Newman's Own and Fisher House Foundation, Inc. are joined by Army Times,
Navy Times, Air Force Times, Marine Corps Times and MilitaryCity.com. The
Military Times Media Group report on the military, but also believe in
supporting the military community. They are benefactors of the Fisher House
program, and support the Newman's Own Award through public service
advertising in their papers and on their web site.
The sponsors will award $50,000 in grants to volunteer organizations for
developing the most innovative programs to improve the quality of life and
support military families. The submission judged to be the most outstanding
will receive a $10,000 grant, with the remaining $40,000 apportioned to
other competing organizations.
To be eligible, the organization must support an Active Duty, National
Guard, or Reserve unit(s) or installation(s) and be tax exempt under Section
501(c)(3) of the IRS code; or a private organization as defined in
Department of Defense Instruction 1000.15 dated October 23, 1997; or a
volunteer organization such as a Family Readiness Group or Center, an
Ombudsmen or Key Volunteer Network. All organizations must be approved for
operation on a Department of Defense installation by the installation
commander. Applications must be received by April 30, 2005.
