- MARRIAGE SAVERS TRAININGS IN SPRINGFIELD, OHIO & GRAND RAPIDS MICHIGAN

It's not too late to register for these complete Marriage Saver Trainings
this weekend, March 26 - 27, Fri 6:30-10:30pm and Sat 8:30am-5pm.

Mike and Harriet McManus will present the Springfield, Ohio Training -

Larry Ballard, Mid-West Director of Marriage Savers, will present the Grand
Rapids, MI training. For details, call 616-831-2622

The core solution can be summarized in one sentence: In every church or
synagogue, there are couples with strong marriages who really could be of
help to other couples, but have never been asked, inspired or trained to do
so. Mentors will learn to strengthen couples across five stages of the
marital life cycle: Preparation, Enrichment, Restoration, Reconciliation and
Stepfamilies.

Here is the description on the show's website:

> The Sanctity of Marriage. Pictured is what happens when math and marriage mix.
> This is data from a study by Dr. John Gottman, a clinical psychologist and
> mathematician who has developed a nearly sure-fire method of determining
> whether a married couple is healthy or doomed to split up all within fifteen
> minutes. He hooks his subjects up to various monitors and videotapes them
> arguing for fifteen minutes. The way they communicate is scored into positive
> and negative moments, generating charts like these. His accuracy rate,
> predicting who'll stay together? Ninety-four percent. This week, what Dr.
> Gottman sees in your marriage that you can't, and other stories from within
> and without the institution of marriage. Broadcast the weekend of March 26-28
> in most places, or available here via RealAudio next week.

P.S. Ira Glass is the son of Shirley Glass, author of "NOT Just Friends".

- WEEKEND AT THE MOVIES....

> Hi Diane,
> I saw "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and thought it was very
> interesting. I don't know that it is award material but it does give couples a
> lot to think about. I think I told you about "Miracles." Although its a movie
> about the U.S. Hockey team that won the Olympics gold medal part of the movie
> is also about the coach and his wife. Very positive portrayal of married life
> and its challenges.
> Anne Welker

> Diane, I also saw "Eternal Sunshine. . . " , but wouldn't nominate it - the
> couple is not married, they begin a sexual relationship the day they met, and
> then she moved in. She is portrayed as a ditzy broad and he is pathetically
> handicapped socially. Not good role models. I liked the movie and the
> message that yes, we can get beyond our history to make a good relationship in
> the future, but it's not Marriage Impact Award material. I do nominate Big
> Fish - a wonderful movie about a loving, long-term marriage which is in the
> background of the meat of the story - a father and son who cannot communicate.
> The resolution had everyone in tears (especially the men). This is a real
> father/son pix with a lovely backdrop of true love for the parents. A winner!
> - Mary Moriarty

> Dear Diane,
> I have seen the HBO original movie "Dinner With Friends", starring Dennis
> Quaid, Andie McDowell, Greg Kinnear and Toni Collete directed by Norman
> Jewison twice. It is a great marriage movie about the effect of one
> marriage on another. It is well written and acted. I would like to
> support its nomination for one of Our Marriage Movie Awards.
> Charles W. Taylor
