Wow, Utah sets the gold standard for Marriage Week. - diane

> Diane,
>
> I'd like to share what Utah is doing this year for Marriage Week USA.
> First, we have our 28 bright red and white pole banners posted on State
> Street in Salt Lake City. This is the second year we have used them.
> They read "Celebrate Marriage Week USA Feb. 7-14" In a winter world of
> gray and white, they really stand out.
>
> To kick off the week, Governor and Mr. Walker invited mayors of the
> state to join them in signing a declaration recognizing Marriage Week
> USA. We received 86 signatures. There is also a Faith Leaders'
> declaration for which signatures were gathered by faith leaders in the
> community.
>
> We asked for and received a letter of support from The Secretary of
> Health and Human Services, Tommy Thompson.
>
> On Tuesday, February 10th, the Governor's Commission on Marriage
> released the results of a statewide baseline survey on marriage and
> divorce in Utah. This is the survey we replicated from Oklahoma.
>
> Friday, February 13th will mark our 12th annual Celebration of
> Marriage. During the day, Michele Weiner-Davis will conduct a workshop
> for professional counselors and faith leaders entitled, "It Takes One To
> Tango." We expect approximately 400 in attendance. That evening will
> be the 12th annual conference for the public. We average 1,500 in
> attendance. Participants can attend two hour-long workshops from a
> choice of eleven topics. The keynote session will include recognition
> of nine "Gold Medal Marriage" couples and two "Milestone" (longest
> married) couples. Our speakers will be authors, Richard Paul Evans and
> Michele Weiner-Davis. The celebration also includes refreshments, an
> on-site bookstore and book signing, and dancing to a live band.
>
> On Sunday, February 15th, the "spoken word" portion of the televised
> Music & The Spoken Word with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir will focus on
> love and marriage.
>
> The declarations, letter of support, and survey have been posted on
> utahmarriage.org.
>
> I've enjoyed reading about what other states and communities are doing.
> Kudos to all and thanks for sharing the great ideas.
