subject: McManus/Marriage Savers Schedule - 12/03
from: Smart Marriages[R]
Dear Diane,
In the story about Delray Beach considering a Community Marriage Policy,
http://listarchives.his.com/smartmarriages/smartmarriages.0312/msg00001.html
someone told the reporter that there are only four divorces in Florida for
every 5 in the United States. I'm sorry to say that is in error. According
to 2001 data, Florida's divorce rate is 5.4 divorces per 1,000 people
compared to a U.S. figure of 4/1,000. That's 35% HIGHER than the U.S. rate.
However, we are pleased to be working with the clergy of that city to create
Florida's 9th Community Marriage Policy. As an upcoming report from the
Institute for Research and Evaluation will document, Marriage Savers has
helped houses of worship push down the divorce rate of more than 100 cities
to date, seven of which are down 48% or more.
