from: Smart Marriages
##############
MARK-UP:
Congress is marking up the Welfare Bill tomorrow, Thursday April 18, to
include the Bush Marriage Initiative. Watch the news to see how it goes.
We know that CNN will do a piece sometime between 10am and 1pm on the
Oklahoma Marriage Initiative - airing it tomorrow because of the
legislation, so I'm sure many stations/newspapers will do Marriage
Initiative coverage. - diane

MRS NORTH DAKOTA:
Stacey Majkrzak is running for Mrs North Dakota on a platform of "Marriage
Matters!" Smart Marriages is a big supporter and we urge anyone who is in
driving distance to attend the pageant being held in the West Fargo High
School Theatre on April 20th at 7pm. I've talked to her and seen her photo
and I'm convinced she'll win and that she'll go on to the national pagent,
but it would be wonderful if anyone in the region could go and support and
cheer her on. You can reach her at 701-367-4970 or at smajkrzak at yahoo.com

TOO LATE??:
I've had inquiries this week asking if it's too late to:
Get my first choice of workshops/institutes at Smart Marriages?
Nominate commercials for the 2002 Smart Marriages Impact Awards?
Invite my legislator/mayor to attend the Smart Marriages conference as a
guest of the conference?
Reserve an exhibit table at the Smart Marriages conference?
Send resources for the HHS/ACF Marriage Education Resource Library?
Find a roommate for the conference to split room costs?
it's not too late for any of these:
WORKSHOPS:
Although some of the sessions are getting full, so far nothing is closed out
and you should be fine if you register by May 10th.
COMMERCIALS:
We've got some great commercials in the running for the Impact Awards, but
would like your ideas about additional nominees. Send us a brief
description and the company/brand name. So far strong contenders are Dannon
Yogurt, JC Penny, and McDonalds. We'll present the awards at the Friday
night banquet and you'll get to see videos of the winners.
LEGISLATOR SCHOLARSHIPS:
Elected officials and their spouse and/or staffers can attend the full
conference including institutes as our guests. Have them contact me and
I'll get them a registration packet.
EXHIBIT TABLES:
Email for an application. Exhibits are $550.
RESOURCES:
The Administration for Children and Families, Health and Human Services has
asked me to collect samples of marriage education programs and resources.
You can still send them to CMFCE, 5310 Belt Rd NW, Washington, DC, 20015.
ROOMMATE:
Send an email w/ your contact info and your arrival and departure dates and
we'll match you up.
