International Marriage and Family Experts Dr. John Covey and Jane Covey to
Present One-Day Workshop Directed by Arizona Marriage and Communication
Skills Commission Training Program
SALT LAKE CITY & PHOENIX, Apr 3, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- FranklinCovey, a
leading, global professional services firm, has announced that communication
experts Dr. John Covey and Jane Covey will present a one-day Marriage and
Communication Skills Training workshop on Saturday, April 13, 2002, from
8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Phoenix Boys' Choir Auditorium.
Married couples and couples intending to marry are invited to attend the
six-hour workshop. John Covey, who holds a Doctorate of Education at Brigham
Young University, and his wife, Jane Covey, will present the topics of
Foundations for Personal and Marital Effectiveness, Balancing Work and
Marriage, and Building Marriage Relationships. John Covey, director of
FranklinCovey's Home and Family Division, and Jane Covey have given numerous
presentations and seminars on marriage and communication throughout the
world.
"Jane and I are highly committed to our mission of helping people strengthen
their problem-solving and relationship-building skills," said John Covey.
"Our hope with this workshop is to assist couples and parents in releasing
their potential to be the most effective they can be in their marital
relationships."
The workshop content was created under the direction of the Arizona Marriage
and Communication Skills Commission and based upon the communication
concepts found in FranklinCovey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective
Families(R) program. FranklinCovey and 10 other Arizona-based organizations
have been awarded contracts to conduct marriage and communication skills
workshops in eleven Arizona counties. FranklinCovey has been assigned to
conduct workshops in the counties of Cochise, Maricopa and Yuma.
Arizona State Rep. Mark Anderson, R-Mesa, Co-Chair of the Arizona Marriage
and Communication Skills Commission and Chairman of the Committee on Human
Services, said: "I am excited about the Marriage and Communication Skills
program. It is a way to help strengthen family relationships and improve the
well-being of children. It is the commission's hope that the program changes
the culture of divorce to a culture of healthy marriages and families."
Arizona State Rep. Sylvia Laughter, D-Kayenta, Arizona Marriage and
Communication Skills Commission Member and Chairwoman of Arizona Native
American Affairs, said, "The Marriage and Communication Skills program is an
exciting opportunity to see, over time, whether we can strengthen families
and lower the divorce rate."
Participants will receive an information booklet on family law, covenant
marriage, and dealing effectively with domestic violence that the Arizona
Marriage and Communication Skills Commission created with the help of
world-renowned marriage and family counselor, Roberta Stapley. They will
also receive The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families book, The Proactive
Family guidebook, and parenting, communication, and marriage resources.
The cost of the workshop is $40 per couple. Parents whose household income
is less than 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Level Standards and have one
or more children at home may attend this training at no charge.
The Arizona Marriage and Communication Skills Program is funded with federal
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) block grant funds. The
federal block grant allows states the option to use funds on programs that
encourage the maintenance and formation of two-parent families.
