HHS Whitepaper:

   I am a psychologist writing a white paper for the Department of Health
and Human Services/Center for Mental Health Services which identifies
evidenced-based interventions that help prevent mental disorders in adults.
Marital discord has been identified as a risk factor for mental disorders,
especially depression.  I wondered if you or your group have conducted
research relevant to this area, or if you could refer me to people who have.
If you have, I would greatly appreciate a copy of relevant articles. Thank

In Michigan there is a concept paper being discussed by the Michigan Family
Independence Agency and other interested parties that focuses on #1)
encouraging family formation, #2) supporting fatherhood, and #3) reducing
out-of-wedlock pregnancies.  These concepts are being discussed in an
effort to meet the last two purposes of TANF. The thinking is that
"children who are wanted and who have two parents in their lives are more
likely to become self-sufficient adults than children who live with a
single parent and do not have a relationship with a father."

This is still in the brainstorming stage - however, MFIA is looking to
pilot a program in the fall. They are looking at targeting five communities
and working through the hospitals in those communities. They would like the
curriculum to include:
* Parenting Skills
* Importance of father in child's life
* Creating a stable family unit (including joint decision-making, exploring
benefits of marriage, etc)
* Anger Management
* Informed family planning (reduce subsequent births)
* Budgeting with a child
* How to choose a child daycare provider
* Asset-building

We are wondering if there are other states who are doing a similar
initiative? Also - if anyone has curricula suggestions to meet the above
list - we would welcome those suggestions as well.

SEX ADDICTS:

I have been asked for info about a support group for wives of sexually
addicted men.  The wife in question already has a therapist, is checking
internet resources, and is calling large churches in our area (Orange
County,CA), but finding little.  Any advice?
