subject: Resources for those fighting divorce
from: Smart Marriages
I have some suggestions for Terri but I'm sure she would like
to hear from others. This is a great letter, and definitely
one that will spur us to action. We'll develop
a separate page of resources for those who wish to contest
or avoid a pending divorce. What would you add to such a page?

For people who have yet to be married or who are in reasonably
satisfactory marriages or even those in troubled marriages, your site
offers a wealth of information. But for people like me, separated due
to the infidelity of a spouse or other reasons, and whose spouse is
certain that things cannot work out and therefore refuse
assistance/therapy/help/counselling/classes of any kind, there are
few resources available. Perhaps it would be a possibility for you to
include a page of resources for those of us facing divorce even
though we don't want one... legal resources or guides or articles,
counseling/therapy or other support or assistance that might help us
either fight this or deal with it would be very welcome.
It seems that most health insurance plans limit coverage for
counseling to the point where one has to accept a sub-standard
therapist or one who has not been trained in any effective marriage
saving or education programs. So far, I have not found any support
groups FOR marriage anywhere near me, and the cost of real
therapy with a qualified counselor is more than I can afford.
Another issue for many or some of us facing divorce: The cost of
legal advice. I would like to be able to get help from a qualified
attorney who cares about marriage, even in the face of divorce - but
even if I could find one in my small town, the cost is more than I
could ever afford. Even mediation is out of my reach at this point - I
have not one penny extra and have several unmet expenses every
month. I am not saying that your site should provide answers to
legal questions, but perhaps an index of attorneys that belong to or
support the Marriage Coalition would be possible? It would be of
value to me, that is certain.
Thank you for the service and information you are providing. Divorce
has never been in my life plans, but it is forcing its way into my life
anyway - It is a sad thing that it takes two people to enter a marriage
covenant and contract, but only one of them to get a divorce. Maybe
your organization will make a real difference soon!
