The on-line conference registration form is now available on the Smart
Marriages web site.
I recommend that you wait until the conference brochures and registration
forms reach you to register. It's easier to register from the brochure.
The brochures should be in your hands by March 5th or sooner. Even if you
want to register on-line, it's still nice to have the brochures in hand
when you do so.

We post the on-line form as a courtesy to those who abroad who don't
receive the brochures in a timely fashion.

However, I know that some of your techies prefer registering on-line -
and that others of you are concerned about being sure you have space in
the Institutes. If so, fire away. It's a secure form. You'll find it
linked from either the smart marriages home page - there is a link in the
conference details paragraph - or from the conference details page
itself. Or go directly to the reg form at:

find the
>"Marriage Secrets". I'll keep looking. MV

just plug in this address:
http://eharlequin.women.com/harl/life/expert/drromance/00drrm17.htm

 - you'll go right to it.
You don't need to go through that chain of directions I listed that
starts at women.com.....
I gave that to illustrate how deeply buried the page was. Sorry to have
confused so many
of you. (But it did make the point!) -diane

Diane,
As I recall CMFCE has a presentation or article on how therapists can be
hazardous to marriages. Do you recall specific presentations or article
that
you have seen?
Morris Patzlaff, MSW

Yes, that was a keynote address by Bill Doherty at the 1999
Smart Marriages conference which has been transcribed - it and many other
great articles are available on the web site. Go to the Articles and
Information page on the smartmarriages.com
web site. Also, there is are both audio ($10) and video ($25) tapes of
the presentation available from 800-241-7785. The keynote session also
included presentations by Pam Jordan on the "Becoming Parents Program"
and by Mike McManus on Marriage Savers. It's a great tape.

Diane,
I just want to add my voice to yours about that horrific spectacle "who
wants
to marry a multimillionaire." As you may recall, I work a lot with
domestic
abuse, and the show simply chilled me. Women as objects for sale, etc.

One of the things that I've enjoyed about the smartmarriages folks is that
they aren't afraid of facing the media. I wonder, can we think of some
interesting, stimulating media event, series, whatever. Remember the "can
this marriage be saved" column? Any ideas? We really need to make
something
fun and attractive that will compete with the barbarian values promoted on
that show.

Diane,
Is there an e-mail address or mailing address where we could write to Fox
and
protest this kind of show?
Deb Berke

Do any of you know how to email FOX?

Iowa lawmakers are looking at implementing "Covenant Marriage" options
which would require
12 hours of premarital education, 12 hours of marital counseling for
couples on verge of
divorcing, Divorce allowed after 2 years of separation, and no waiting
period required for divorces stemming from adultery, abandonment, physical
or sexual abuse or imprisonment of a spouse for a felony crime.
This
would be an option, not mandatory, right now anyway.
Jerry
