We at IBHP co-sponsored a free series of web-based seminars with CPCA that touched on several aspects of integrated care, including one geared to primary care providers that centered on psychiatric diagnosis and medication. All primary care clinics were invited to attend. The audio and Powerpoint of that presentation, by James Bourgeois MD of UC Davis, can be accessed on the CPCA website (www.cpca.org). I've attached the Powerpoint. Dr. Bourgeois frequently presents on this topic and has done multi-part, in-depth presentations for PCP's - and he's fairly close to you.

Hi all

I am passing on a request for recommendations and resources regarding training for practicing primary care clinicians to be able to treat behavioral health issues in clinic.

What was requested: "We need specific training to deal with major psychiatric disorders as the primary care provider. This would include medical updates on the disorders and specific training on use of medications. We should learn both "optimal" and formulary based therapies (ie Medi-cal formulary)

There are three principal areas of interest:
1. Depression
2. Affective disorders (ie manic depressive)
3. Thought disorders (schizophrenia, schizoaffective)

Some of the training could be selected reading for us chosen by a psychiatrist (background information). True false questions or exam based learning is good too. Lectures created specifically for our needs could also be successful."
Thanks for any suggestions
<X-SIGSEP>
