The two Integrated Health Care Initiative grant recipients along the border serve primarily Hispanic populatins (the ProjectVidaHealthCenter in El Paso and and the Valley Primary Care Network member clinics in the Lower Rio Grande Valley). One of the Foundation's Cultural Adaptation Initiative grants went to Tropical Texas Behavioral Health (Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy Counties).

One of the Hogg Foundation's Integrated Health Care Initiative grants went to the Valley Primary Care Netowrk in Harlingen, Texas, and it's four FQHC member clinics (Brownsville Community Health Center, Community Action Council of South Texas, Nuestra Clinica Del Valle, and Su Clinica Familiar). We at Su Clnica Familiar in Harlingen are starting our Primary Care/Mental Health integration program (Wellness Program) May 1. One of the U of Washington team members involved in the Integrated Health Care Initiateve grants is Jurgen Unutzer, principal investigator of Project IMPACT (see above). A Harvard University group is interested in doing some research with the population we and the other three VPCN member clinics serve. Also, one of the interns from the local Lower Rio Grande Valley Regional Academic Health Center is instested in doing some research on the treatment of diabetes and depression in a primary care setting.

Hi All,

I am a PsyD student working in a new primary care integration project
in Boulder, Colorado. We're an FQHC working in collaboration with the
CMHC across the street. I'm looking for a dissertation project and have
had difficulty finding much published research in this area. A typical
psycinfo search doesn't yield many results.

Are any of the members of this listserv involved in primary care
integration research? If so, I'm wondering if anyone has any
suggestions for areas in need of more research, and would be willing to
help me think about possible and doable projects.

Does anyone know about any research of the following in the primacy
care environment?:

1. Effectiveness of group treatments in primary care environment
2. Effectiveness of mindfulness based interventions in primary care
environment
2. Diabetes management in conjunction with depression management (does
diabetes management that involves a behavioral health professional have
advantage over management by nurse educators?)
3. Response of spanish speaking patients to behavioral health
interventions in primary care environment

I'm also just generally interested in neuropsych issues along the lines
of Daniel Siegel and Antonio Damasio.

If anyone has any thoughts about these or other research topics, I'd
welcome your thoughts.

Thanks.

michael dow
