Clinical Psychologist in Family Practice Clinic
Northern Minnesota Lake Country
MeritCare Health Sytem, an integrated not-for-profit healthcare organization, based in Fargo, North Dakota, with 2 major medical centers and satellite clinics throughout North Dakota and Western Minnesota, announces an opening for a doctoral level psychologist in its Detroit Lakes, Minnesota office (http://www.visitdetroitlakes.com/).
The ideal candidate will join two other doctoral level psychologists in a primary care clinical practice, which is integrated with family medicine in collaborative practice. The medical staff consists of 5 family physicians (to be 7 in 2005), two part-time psychiatrists, an internist, 3 physician assistants, 2 surgeons, an optometrist, an OB-GYN, and a full physical therapy department in addition to the psychology department. A support staff of approximately 30 people creates a professional and efficient work environment. The atmosphere supports collegial clinical practice, which emphasizes the integration of medical and behavioral health care for ambulatory primary care patients.
The community of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, approximately 220 miles NW of Minneapolis is famous for its abundant lakes, tremendous outdoor recreation, and 4-season climate. The city of 7600 people is the county seat for a catchment area of approximately 30,000.
The ideal candidate will meet the following guidelines:
*A doctoral degree from an APA accredited university or professional school.
*An APA accredited 12 month internship
*Licensed or able to be licensed in Minnesota as a psychologist
*Eligible for listing in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology
*Postdoctoral training in health psychology and/or primary care healthcare delivery in a medical setting.
*Interest or expertise in practicing in a rural setting
We are seeking a candidate with particular interest in developing a practice oriented toward older adults who will work with physicians, hospitals, and local nursing homes and who has skills in neuropsychological assessment. This position will augment the current psychological practices, which focus on child/adolescent and adult populations. However, the selected candidate will be comfortable seeing clients of all age ranges and will have experience/interest in treating a wide variety of mental health conditions normally encountered in an ambulatory family medicine clinic.
