I actually held the book in my hand on Saturday whilst perusing the
English book section of a local bookstore over here.
I decided on ordering the new book by Eric Hobsbawm via Amazon (I am
such a cheapskate) after discovering it right next to Wiener's book
and reading the first two pages.
It also reminded me of the fact I still have to completely read Cees
Wiebes' "Intelligence & The War In Bosnia"/ "Intelligence en de
oorlog in Bosnië 1992 - 1995". Now there are two books worth reading.
There is simply such a notable difference in quality and standard to
reading works stemming from most journalists in comparison to
academics.
Nonetheless, I think I shall read Wiener's book as soon as it is
available as a mass market paperback.
After all, opinion should be informed by familiarity, not by prejudice.
Just my 2 cents on this whole discussion.
Cheers,
John W. Daly
