I think there was something on the Discovery Channel, (or was it a CNN
Special), about the French approach to CI. I am afraid I missed it. The
best I can come up with is this Bruce Crumley piece from Time. . .
Fighting Terrorism: Lessons from France
France has been remarkably successful in thwarting Islamist terrorism.
The French experience holds some challenging lessons for the U.S.

What struck me in Crumley's piece was this phrase "... a set of laws
that would (and in France at times did) make civil libertarians' hair
stand on end."
Perhaps the Patriot Act isn't all that bad after all--might even need to
be stiffened a bit here and there. Unfortunately, that's not likely to
happen until after another 9/11 event. Pity. I try not to be a pessimist
on these sorts of things, really! :->)
